Mount Pleasant Group
To mark our 200th anniversary this year, Mount Pleasant Group introduces the Memory Garden, an experiential installation created in partnership with Method Collective at three of our sites - Thornton Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Centres, York Cemetery and Funeral Centre, and Meadowvale Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Centres.
At the heart of each Memory Garden are paper birds carrying messages left by visitors – memories of loved ones, advice, and words that may have gone unspoken. Over time, these messages come together, forming a shared space of care and connection. Some people choose to read, some to write, and some simply take a moment to pause. There’s no one way to experience it.
If you visit, you’re always welcome to take part or simply spend time in the space. Because every visitor carries a story, and every story deserves space. 🤍🕊️
P.S. This is just the beginning, more installations will be coming to additional sites, and we’ll continue to share updates as they unfold at mpg200.ca.

We were pleased to see Kristi Kasper’s recent reflection piece about Mount Pleasant Cemetery in the Globe and Mail. In the piece, she shares why this space has become one of her favourite places in Toronto, and how a walk through the cemetery can feel grounding, peaceful, and full of life.
This kind of reflection resonates deeply during Mount Pleasant Group’s 200th anniversary year. We love hearing about all the ways people experience our cemeteries - as places of remembrance, reflection, and restoration.
If you’re curious to explore more, visit mpg200.ca to journey through our 200 Stories Project, and keep an eye out for our upcoming immersive installations at select locations.
