During these difficult times, we are spending an increasing amount of time sitting. This leads to muscle soreness and joint stiffness in our shoulders, neck and back.
Whether we are physical distancing at home or working in our home offices, it is important to know how to sit with proper posture. Sure, it feels great and relaxing to slouch and lounge on our favourite couch or chair at home, but know that our neck and spines do not like to be in this posture for too long. In fact, our body does not like to be in ANY position for too long. However, this is video demonstrates a more optimal sitting posture. *Edit: Computer should be at eye level - I don’t have a proper desk in my condo :)* Considerations:
1. Sitting like this may feel unnatural but SHOULD NOT HURT. If pain is felt, consult with a health care professional
2. The more you practice this, the easier and more natural it will feel
3. As a reminder, program a notification in your smartphone to alert you to sit up straight (every hour or so). Eventually you won’t need a reminder
I will be following up this post with neck stretches and strengthening exercise to help make sitting properly a little easier. 04/23/2020

Support Me at Strides for Melanoma Awareness!

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I am walking at the 4th Annual Strides for Melanoma Walk for Awareness to raise funds for Melanoma Network of Canada in honour of my Zio Denis, "The Ace", who passed recently and suddenly of melanoma (skin cancer).

Being a chiropractor my job involves constant monitoring of skin lesions/moles/beauty marks on a daily basis. It is very important to monitor your skin to ensure that any marks on your body do not change in size, shape or colour. These could be the first sign of melanoma (skin cancer). There is a simple rule to help remember how to detect a suspicious lesion in your skin:

Asymmetry: One half of the mole does not match the other half.

Border irregularity: The edges of the mole are irregular, ragged, blurred, or notched.

Color: The color over the mole is not the same all over. There may be shades of tan, brown, or black.

Diameter: The mole is larger than about 1⁄4 inch – about the size of a pencil eraser

If you notice any of the above changes in any marks on your body, please seek the medical attention of a dermatologist or your family physician!!

Please sponsor us to help us reach our goal and to ultimately make a difference in the lives of those affected by melanoma. Thank you!
