A lot of people come into therapy carrying two conversations at once.
The first is the thing they actually want support with.
The second is the constant internal negotiation around whether they’re “allowed” to bring it up the truth of what they’re actually thinking and feeling.
“Maybe I’m overreacting.”
“Maybe this isn’t serious enough.”
“Maybe I should be handling this better by now.”
“Maybe they’ll think I’m too much.”
For many people, therapy is one of the first places they practice saying the honest thing without immediately minimizing it afterward.
Not because therapists are expecting perfection, but because so many people were taught, explicitly or implicitly, that their emotions were inconvenient, dramatic, irrational, selfish, weak, or unsafe to express.
You do not need to become more distressed before you deserve support.
And you do not need to package your pain perfectly to be taken seriously.
If this resonates, therapy might be a gentler place to bring your whole self than you think.

Meet Danny! 🌱
A therapist in training now accepting new clients for low-cost therapy.
Danny grew up in the North of England, where emotions stayed buried and people suffered quietly for it. That experience, combined with his work supporting neurodivergent children in Australia, the unhoused community in Vancouver, and people in crisis at a su***de prevention centre right here in Toronto, shaped a therapist who genuinely gets what it means to carry something you’ve never had the words for.
He works with adults navigating trauma, self-worth, anxiety and low mood, apathy and lost direction, the emotional weight of masculinity, life transitions, and that hard to name feeling that something just isn’t quite right.
If you’ve been waiting for the right fit, Danny might be yours. Book a free consultation or learn more at workinprogressto.ca/danny 🤎

Meet Danny! 🌱
A therapist in training now accepting new clients for low-cost therapy.
Danny’s path to becoming a therapist has taken him across three countries, from supporting neurodivergent children in Australia, to working with the unhoused community in Vancouver, to the su***de prevention centre right here in Toronto. It’s shaped his belief that regardless of your struggles, large or small, nothing that causes you pain is too trivial to be met with empathy and acceptance.
He works with adults navigating trauma, identity and self-worth, the emotional effects of toxic masculinity, life transitions, relationship challenges, grief, and experiences of marginalization or crisis.
If you’ve been waiting for the right fit, Danny might be yours. Book a free consultation or learn more at workinprogressto.ca/danny 🤎

You don’t have to be “falling apart” to come to therapy.
You don’t need a diagnosis, a crisis, or a clear explanation for what’s bringing you in—though those are all welcome, too.
Sometimes there’s just a quiet sense that something could feel different. And that alone is enough to begin.
At Work in Progress, we meet you exactly where you are.

As April comes to a close, we just want to remind you that growth doesn’t always feel pretty in the middle of it. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.
Flowers actually need the rain to grow, and maybe you do too sometimes 🌧️🌸
Be gentle with yourself. Celebrate the small wins. And if you’re ready to have some support through your next season, we’d love to be part of your journey.
