Struggling to stay focused? If your brain keeps drifting, you’re not alone.
Your brain has different “modes” for different needs. One is the default mode network (DMN), which is your brains autopilot. It’s active when your brain is wandering or daydreaming. 💭
To focus, you have to shift to a task-focused network. For those with ADHD, this takes more effort and the DMN stays active during those tasks. This can feel like difficulty starting tasks, getting pulled into your thoughts, or losing track of what you were doing.
Mindfulness is a helpful too to help combat this. It helps you notice “Oh - I’ve drifted!” The moment of awareness creates a pause and makes shifting brain modes possible.
💡 Try this: Name what distracted you (thinking, scrolling, etc.)
🧠 Then ask: “What do I want to be doing right now?”
