What Are Codman Exercises?
Codman exercises, also known as pendulum exercises, are gentle shoulder movements that use gravity to create motion without actively engaging the shoulder muscles.
They are especially useful in the early stages of rehabilitation after:
✔️ Rotator cuff injuries
✔️ Shoulder surgery
✔️ Tendinitis
✔️ Adhesive capsulitis
🔹 How do they work?
The patient leans slightly forward and lets the arm hang relaxed, performing small circular or swinging motions.
🔹 Why are they important?
✅ Reduce pain
✅ Improve circulation
✅ Prevent stiffness
✅ Maintain joint mobility without overloading the shoulder
They are a simple yet highly effective tool in physical therapy to safely begin the recovery process.
