Currently underway in Kadoma🇿🇼 is an Action training aimed at shifting the paradigm from disaster response to proactive risk management by strengthening anticipatory action systems across Zimbabwe.

This capacity-strengthening initiative is part of the ECHO🇪🇺-ARISE project, implemented by Save the Children, Bantwana Zimbabwe, Simukai Child Protection Programme, and the Government of Zimbabwe. Rather than just reacting to climate shocks after they happen, the goal is to equip institutions with the frameworks, data systems, and coordination protocols needed to trigger early actions before a crisis hits—ultimately protecting vulnerable communities ahead of time.

To ensure a truly institutionalised, multi-sectoral approach, the workshop has brought together UN agencies, civil society partners, and key stakeholders primarily from the project’s target districts of Chipinge and Mangwe.

Key Government partners shaping this system include:
• Ministry of Local Government and Public Works thorough District Development Coordinators.
• Disaster & Social Services: National and District-level Department of Civil Protection and Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare's Department of Social Development.

• Ministry of Primary & Secondary Education, Zimbabwe , Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe , and Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development Zim (WASH department).

• Knowledge Partners: Academic experts from Bindura University of Science Education.

By bridging the gap between early warning signs and early institutional action, we are helping build a more resilient, forward-looking disaster management system for Zimbabwe.

Happy Birthday to our Executive Director, Mr. Evans Magumise.

Today we celebrate a remarkable leader who upholds a standard of excellence, leads with clarity and wisdom, and creates an environment where others are empowered to flourish and thrive in their God-given abilities.

Your leadership continues to inspire growth, purpose, and dedication in everyone around you.

May the Lord continue to strengthen you, enlarge your territory, and cause you to find favor in every space you are found. May doors of opportunity, influence, and impact open before you. Fear is not your portion, for the Lord Himself goes before you and remains with you in every season.

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” — Isaiah 41:10

May this new year of your life be filled with divine wisdom, good health, peace, joy, and abundant blessings.

Thank you for your unwavering commitment, vision, and heart for children and communities.

Happy Birthday and may the Lord richly bless you always!

35 Students Teachers Graduate from our Sign Language & Deaf Awareness Course

On the 23rd of April 2026, Simukai Vocational Skills Training Hub proudly hosted a Certificates Handout & Graduation Ceremony for 35 student teachers who successfully completed our Sign Language & Deaf Awareness Short Course held from the 14th of March to the 28th of March 2026.

At Simukai, we believe true empowerment means no one is left behind. While we are known for equipping communities with technical and vocational skills, we are equally committed to building an inclusive society where communication has no barriers. Teaching Sign Language is how we put that commitment into action.

The training brought together 18 male and 17 female student teachers for 24 credit hours of intensive and practical learning led by 2 facilitators, including a Deaf facilitator on the final day.

The training was truly transformative. One student shared how he met Deaf people on his way to class and struck up a conversation, saying he was impressed by how friendly they were and that it shattered the myths he had. Many entered thinking Sign Language was too difficult or that Deaf people cannot choose their own life partners, but they left understanding that deafness is not inability and that Deaf people have rights, preferences and rich culture that must be respected.

These 35 student teachers are now equipped to make classrooms inclusive from day one. They can welcome Deaf learners, communicate with Deaf parents, and model respect for diversity in the education sector. This is how we enhance service delivery by ensuring every child is seen and heard.

Simukai will keep investing in skills that build both livelihoods and inclusive communities because development without inclusion is incomplete.

To our graduates we say: "Your hands now speak. Go connect hearts"
