Laptops for 192 TVET Students as Govt, FAWEZI Boost Digital Learning

The Forum for African Women Educationalists Zimbabwe (FAWEZI) has handed over laptops to 192 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) bursary beneficiaries under the FAWE/Mastercard Foundation Phase II Programme.

The ceremony was held on 30 April 2026 at Golden Conifer Conference center in Harare.

Among the 192 beneficiaries, 33 are pursuing various courses at Mutare Polytechnic, including, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Fabrication, Information Technology, Laboratory Technology, Quantity Surveying Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Carpentry and Joinery, Electrical Power Engineering, Automobile Electronics and Electrical Communication Systems

Speaking at the event, Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Permanent Secretary Professor Fanuel Tagwira said access to digital devices was no longer a luxury but a necessity in the AI-driven era.

He noted that girls and young women remain underrepresented in STEM fields, constituting only 33% at tertiary level.

By placing digital tools in their hands, we are actively bridging the digital divide,” he said.

FAWEZI chairperson Professor Ruth Gora described the laptops as symbols of opportunity and empowerment, while Deputy Minister Mercy Dinha said the initiative was opening doors to knowledge and innovation.

The programme is part of the Second Chance Pathways initiative, aimed at empowering marginalised youths and advancing inclusive education in line with national development goals of leaving no one and no place behind.
