Craig putting the final touches on a piece inspired by ancient folklore. He often veered away from standard wildlife subjects to try his hand at exotic, mythic tales, as you all know he loved his tales. Here is breathtaking painting of a Bedouin hunter and his horse facing off with a pride of lions. Craig was always inspired by storytelling, and this beautiful painting brought yet another story to life.

Social Weavers building their nest.
Craig was so taken with the huge nest being built by the social weavers in a tree beside Norman Travers’ farmhouse. Whilst on a trip to Imire to take reference photos of the rhino, lion, and various other game that the Travers family had on their game farm, Craig, invited in for tea by Mrs. Travers, walked under this amazing construction on the way to the house. It was a first for him, just seeing the enormity of the social weaver nest. From that moment on, Craig started to have an interest in not only the big game, but the smaller, more colorful, and songful birdlife of the bush too.

I found this photo yesterday. It’s Craig napping at Mana Pools. If you knew Craig at all, you knew that mandatory midday nap happened every day, come hell or high water. It’s amazing to me how he stuck to certain habits so religiously. ❤️
