May 28 was Day of the Street Child. This week in different parts of the world activists, policy makers, care givers and communities of compassion put their minds to look into issues of children abandoned and neglected. How can we better understand what makes a mother abandon a child? How can understanding what drives a mother to abandon a child help us reduce abandonment? What makes a father reject a child? How can an abandoned child live beyond such rejection? What if the child was conceived out of r**e? What is the child was conceived out of in**st? What provisions are there for community to care for children who have been abandoned? How have you overcome the challenges of never knowing who your father is/was, if you were rejected? How have you overcome the desire to know your mother you have never seen for one reason or another? We can all make a difference: “Every act of truth is a victory over lies. Every act of love is a victory over hatred. Every act of justice is a victory over brutality. Every act of peace is a victory over bloodshed. And every risk a person takes to make a stand, no matter how small it may be, is a victory in the battle to build a better world.” Dave Andrews in Be-Attitudes
