As we approach the Day of the African Child on 16 June under the theme, “Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa,” here is a reminder that access to safe water remains out of reach for many children in marginal communities in Zimbabwe. Every child deserves clean water, good health, and the opportunity to thrive.

Technology is changing the way we live, work, and connect. Has it made violence against women and girls worse, or has it created more opportunities to seek help? Let's talk about it.

Water access in Zimbabwe has stalled at 64%, leaving more than one in three people without a basic drinking water service. Women and girls often bear the heaviest burden, travelling long distances to collect water, sacrificing time for education, work and other opportunities. Access to clean water is not just a development issue, it is a dignity, health and equality issue. We need investment in safe, reliable and accessible water services for all. Every child deserves access to clean water, health and sanitation.
