PRESIDENT HICHILEMA REITERATES ZAMBIA'S COMMITMENT TO AfCFTA DIGITAL TRADE PROTOCOL
Lusaka, Zambia - President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed Zambia's unwavering commitment to implementing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Digital Trade Protocol.
Speaking at the inaugural AfCFTA Digital Trade Forum, President Hichilema emphasized that Africa's progress depends on dismantling trade barriers and empowering local enterprises.
"The African continent's vast natural resources should fuel prosperity, not stagnation," President Hichilema stated. "As leaders, we are resolved to prioritize investment and raise the living standards of our people. Together, let's unlock Africa's potential and build a prosperous future."
Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Hon. Chipoka Mulenga, MP, added that the Digital Trade Forum is a key event for unpacking opportunities under the AfCFTA Digital Trade Protocol, themed "Boosting Digital Trade to Accelerate AfCFTA Implementation."
AfCFTA Secretary-General, His Excellency Wamkele Mene, highlighted that the growth of digital trade in Africa will create new opportunities for businesses and foreign investors, citing the need for 700 new data centers and 1,000 MW of additional capacity to support high-quality digital operations.
The forum aims to build Africa's digital future, promote digital inclusion and shared prosperity, and secure investments in digital infrastructure and innovation.
