KAFUE ROUNDABOUT MODERNIZATION PROJECT REACHES 50% COMPLETION

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) wishes to inform the public that construction works on the Kafue Roundabout modernization project have reached 50% completion.

The works are supervised by LCC’s Department of Engineering and Infrastructure Development. The upgrade will transform the facility into a modern intersection with improved traffic flow, enhanced pedestrian safety, upgraded street lighting, and landscaped green spaces.

Once works at Kafue Roundabout are completed, construction will extend to Kabwe Roundabout. This expansion forms part of LCC’s broader program to modernize key traffic junctions across the city and improve movement for motorists, pedestrians, and public transport.

The Kafue and Kabwe Roundabout upgrades are being delivered as a Social Corporate Responsibility initiative by the Wonderful Group of Companies. Their contribution supports LCC’s efforts to modernize Lusaka’s infrastructure and improve service delivery for residents and businesses.

LCC continues to monitor the project to ensure works progress according to schedule while maintaining safety standards. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to follow all traffic directions and signage around the construction zones.

LCC appeals to business entities to emulate Wonderful Group of Companies and support the redevelopment of the city to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population and the demand for modern public infrastructure.

US To Stop Funding HIV/AIDS programmes in South Africa

BBC- The US government says it will stop funding programmes in South Africa, intended to tackle the spread of HIV and Aids.

More than 8 million South Africans are living with HIV – the highest number of any country in the world.

The US State Department appeared to link the decision to South Africa's alleged failure to protect the white-minority Afrikaner community - an allegation the South African government has repeatedly rejected.

South Africa's health ministry responded by saying that though it had not been informed of this decision, it had long been working on a self-reliance plan.

Until 2025, the US was supporting South Africa's efforts to deal with the virus with an estimated 400 million dollars a year through the President's Emergency Fund for Aids Relief -PEPFAR.

But since the inauguration of President DONALD TRUMP, relations between the two countries have increasingly soured.

Chiluba family pleads with govt to release seized properties

THE family of late second president Frederick Chiluba has appealed to President Hakainde Hichilema to help return properties, assets and money belonging to the late leader, saying they have waited many years for the matter to be concluded.

Speaking during Chiluba's 15th memorial service, his daughter Huldah Chiluba, who represented the family, said although President Hichilema had previously directed that the family's properties be returned, the process had not yet been completed.

Huldah said the issue had remained a painful one for the family because it had prevented them from fully closing a chapter that has remained open since Dr Chiluba's death.

The family revealed that some of the former president's properties, assets and money were still being withheld despite earlier assurances that the matter would be resolved.

"We remain grateful for the directive you gave when you [President Hichilema] attended Dad's memorial a few years ago. However, the properties, assets and monies have not yet been fully returned. Today, I respectfully ask that every effort be made to bring this process to its rightful conclusion," Huldah said.

The family also asked government to consider restoring Chiluba's presidential immunity, arguing that despite being cleared by the courts in 2009, some issues linked to his name and legacy were still unresolved.

According to the family, their appeal was not about seeking favours but about fairness, justice and bringing closure to a matter that has dragged on for years.

"We seek only the opportunity to close this chapter with dignity and peace, so that his children, grandchildren and future generations may move forward without carrying the burden of unresolved matters," she added.

They further expressed gratitude to President Hichilema and First Lady Mutinta Hichilema for the support shown to the Chiluba family over the years, particularly during periods when former first lady Vera Chiluba faced health challenges.

Police arrest 'Kalufyanya', a UPND cadre, over violence in Mandevu

THE Zambia Police Service in Lusaka has lived up to its commitment to the public that it will arrest all individuals involved in political violence, regardless of their political affiliation.

This move is in line with President Hakainde Hichilema's repeated encouragement to law enforcement agencies to arrest and deal with perpetrators of violence without regard to the political parties they belong to.

On Monday, suspected UPND cadres were accused of attacking Tonse Alliance members in Mandevu. The attack reportedly resulted in theft and damage to property.

"The Zambia Police Service in Lusaka has apprehended Jimmy Muteba, aged 43, commonly known as 'Kalufyanya,' of Mandevu Compound, following an intelligence-led operation conducted around 19:00 hours on June 17, 2026.

"The suspect was apprehended in Chaisa Compound. He is among several individuals wanted by police in connection with offences of malicious damage to property and theft committed during disturbances that occurred in Mandevu Compound on June 16, 2026," Chilabi said in a statement this morning," Chilabi has said.

He says Jimmy Muteba is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

"The operation remains ongoing, and police have intensified efforts to apprehend other suspects who are still at large to ensure that all persons suspected of involvement in the criminal activities are brought to justice.

"The Service wishes to thank members of the community for their continued support and cooperation in the ongoing investigations," says Chilabi.

He reaffirms the Zambia Police Service's commitment to ensuring that no political violence goes unchecked.

"The Zambia Police Service remains committed to maintaining law and order and has zero tolerance for political violence.

"Any individuals found culpable will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law, regardless of their political affiliation or status," Chilabi has warned.
