BREAKING NEWS : Blogger Jailed for Harassing Yo Maps and Kidist — What This Means for Online Conduct in Zambia

In a landmark ruling that’s shaking the Zambian digital space, popular blogger Elias Musyani has been sentenced to six months in prison and fined K70,000 for cyber harassment directed at celebrated musician Yo Maps and his wife Kidist.

The verdict, handed down today, marks a critical turning point in the fight against online abuse and defamation, particularly towards public figures. For months, Musyani made headlines—and enemies—by publishing relentless attacks and controversial content aimed at the couple. Now, the law has spoken.

But beyond the scandal and the sentence lies a bigger question:
When does online commentary cross the line into harassment?

In the era of likes, retweets, and viral gossip, social media has become both a platform for expression—and a battleground for character assassination. Musyani’s case serves as a bold warning to content creators, bloggers, and influencers: freedom of expression does not mean freedom from consequences.

Let this case be a wake-up call for digital citizens:

Verify facts before publishing.

Disagree respectfully.

Know the legal limits of speech.

Remember that behind every celebrity is a human being with a family, a reputation, and rights.

As the online world evolves, so must our responsibility to use platforms wisely.

Two days ago was World Press Freedom Day 🗞️✨ – a moment to reflect on the essential role a free press plays in upholding democracy, transparency, and human rights.

As an advocate for quality education 📚 and gender equality ⚖️, I recognize that access to truthful, independent information is a cornerstone of informed societies. Journalists around the world risk their lives and freedom to report stories that matter—stories that shape public discourse, expose injustice, and give voice to the unheard 🗣️.

This year’s theme, “A Press for the Planet” 🌍, highlights the role of journalism in addressing the global climate crisis—reminding us that without press freedom, the path to sustainable development becomes even more difficult.

Let’s use today to recommit ourselves to protecting press freedom and standing in solidarity with journalists who continue to inform, educate, and empower communities ✊📰.

A free press is not a threat—it’s a foundation. 🧱

📢 This International Women's Day, Let's Talk About Empowerment Through Education! 🎓✨

Happy Women’s Day to all women! 💜 Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women worldwide. But we must also address the challenges that hold many young girls back—teenage pregnancy and early marriages.

Education is the key to breaking this cycle. When a girl stays in school, she gains knowledge, skills, and opportunities that empower her to make informed decisions about her future. Quality education isn’t just about academics—it’s about teaching life skills, building confidence, and opening doors to endless possibilities.

💡 This is why I'm honored to be speaking at Capital FM on how quality education can help mitigate teenage pregnancy and early marriages. Because when we invest in education, we invest in a future where every girl has the power to choose her own path.

Let’s continue to uplift, support, and empower women and girls everywhere! 💜

🎙️ "Good morning, good afternoon, good evening… wherever you’re tuning in from!" 📻✨

Radio is more than just sound—it’s a heartbeat, a storyteller, a companion. 🌍 It has made us laugh, cry, sing out loud, and even argue with the host (even though they can't hear us! 😆).

As a radio presenter, I’ve had unforgettable moments on the mic—like the time I almost called a listener by the wrong name live on air! (Yikes! 😅). But that’s the beauty of radio—it’s real, raw, and full of surprises.

From breaking news to late-night dedications, radio has shaped conversations, sparked movements, and been a trusted friend in many homes. Whether it's in the car, at work, or playing softly in the background, it has a way of bringing us together.

🎧 What’s your most memorable radio moment? A song that takes you back? A show you never missed? Drop it in the comments! 👇

📢 And if you could host your own radio show for a day, what would it be about? Let’s have some fun! 🎶

Happy world radio day from me to you❤️📻

This is very sad and disheartening. Something definitely has to be done.

The bans on education for women and girls in will:
😔Increase child marriage risk by 25%
😔Cause a 45% rise in adolescent pregnancies
😔Lead to a 50% rise in maternal mortality

We continue to stand with Afghan women and girls and call for these bans to be reversed.
