If you think that you need to have a computer science certificate or be a graduate before you get started in tech, this is for you.
I have gotten some DMs like, “I don’t have a computer science certificate. Are you sure I will get a job after learning?”
“I’m not a graduate. Will I ever make it in tech?”
And my answer is YES.
Tech is one of the few industries where what you can do matters more than what is written on paper.
Companies are not just looking for certificates. They are looking for people who can solve problems, build things, and actually apply their knowledge.
If you can build projects, understand how things work, and keep improving your skills, you are already on the right path.
Many people working in tech today didn’t start with a computer science degree. Some came from completely different fields. What made the difference was their willingness to learn, practice, and stay consistent.
The truth is that a certificate can be nice to have, but it is not the only path into tech.
Your portfolio, your projects, and your skills can speak louder than a piece of paper.
So if you have been holding yourself back because you think you need a degree first, this is your reminder that you can start exactly where you are.
Learn the skills.
Build real projects.
Stay consistent.
Tech is open to anyone who is willing to put in the work.

Euphemia K Chikungulu writes,

Random thought about patterns in various aspects of life, in this case startups and entrepreneurship.
almost every failed startup dies the same ten deaths. Run out of cash. Build something nobody wants. Ignore customer feedback. Hire the wrong co-founder. Scale too early. Give up too soon. The patterns are always screaming at you most founders just refuse to listen. That idea? Someone tried it some time back and failed for reasons you haven't researched. That early investor who's really interested? They've been interested for six months with no term sheet. That rockstar hire who won't commit until you raise? They never commit. Successful founders aren't lucky they've seen the movie before. They know what product market fit feels like because they've felt its absence. They recognize the pivotal moment three months before everyone else sees it. They spot the toxic co-founder dynamic in week two, not year two.
The market rewards speed, and pattern recognition is your shortcut. Every customer complaint is a pattern. Every competitor failure is a lesson. Every funding rejection has a reason that will repeat. Most founders treat each problem as unique and novel. The winners keep a mental library, This is the part where we need to cut burn rate" or "I've seen this growth curve it plateaus in three months unless we do X. Your entrepreneurial edge isn't your intelligence or your work ethic. It's recognizing the patterns faster than the next founder and acting on them before the market forces your hand. With that said it's good to see Zambian startups in various sectors bloosom and fight everyday to keep their startups afloat.
