ABSA, ENVIRONMENT SAVERS DONATE WASTE BINS TO CHAINDA PRIMARY SCHOOL
Chainda Primary School has received a donation of waste bins from Absa Bank Zambia in partnership with Environment Savers of Zambia as part of efforts to promote proper waste management and environmental conservation among its 3,000 learners.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mato Shimabale said Absa’s century-long presence in Zambia comes with a responsibility to contribute positively to communities.
He encouraged learners to develop a culture of saving from an early age and emphasized the need to protect the environment, noting that poor waste management contributes to challenges such as droughts and floods.
Mr. Shimabale said the initiative will begin with Chainda Primary School before being expanded to markets and other community spaces as part of the bank’s broader commitment to environmental sustainability.
Meanwhile, Chainda Primary School Headteacher, Brian Mubita, expressed gratitude for the donation, describing it as a significant boost to the school’s cleanliness and environmental awareness efforts.
He pledged that the bins would be put to proper use and appealed for additional support, particularly in improving the school’s computer laboratory facilities.
Founder of Environment Savers of Zambia, Enock Mwewa, announced plans to establish an Environmental Conservation Club at the school to equip learners with practical environmental stewardship skills.
Delivering a vote of thanks on behalf of the pupils, Deborah Bwalya said the donation would help maintain a clean school environment while fostering a sense of environmental responsibility among learners.
