UPDATE ON BLUE ๐๐พ
I honestly don't even know where to begin...
We have received some devastating news about little Blue.
After being knocked down by a car, we knew she had a long road ahead of her, but we never imagined just how much this tiny little girl was fighting.
The X-rays have revealed that Blue has a massive stone in her stomach. It is far too large to pass through her tiny intestines and will need to be surgically removed. Because she is still recovering from lung trauma caused by the accident, putting her under anaesthetic carries additional risks.
I have been watching her like a hawk for any signs that the stone might begin moving through her intestines. Unfortunately, this morning she started vomiting, and I rushed her straight back to MediVet. She is currently there having more X-rays to determine whether the stone has moved. Regardless of the outcome, the stone will still need to be removed.
As if that wasn't enough, Blue also has a fractured ulna in her front leg, most likely from the impact of the vehicle that hit her.
There is also a possibility that she has suffered nerve damage to that leg. If, after giving her every chance to recover, there is no function, we may eventually have to amputate it.
Please, before anyone judges that possibility, know that this would only ever be considered if it is the best option for Blue. Dogs are incredibly resilient, especially young ones, and if it comes to that, she can still live a long, happy, active life on three legs. Right now, our priority is giving her every possible chance.
I have been in tears all morning.
This little girl has every reason to give up... but she doesn't.
She still wags her tail when she sees me. She still tries to play with her little toys. She still looks up at me with those beautiful eyes, trusting that I will help her, even though she is sore and frightened.
She has so much fight left in her.
And I refuse to let her fight alone.
Financially, I am drowning.
โข Hillcrest Vet bill: Almost R9,000
โข Today's MediVet treatment: Estimated at around R2,500
โข Upcoming surgery to remove the stone: Approximately R12,000
I know donor fatigue is real. I know people must be tired of seeing me ask for help.
But I don't ask for me.
I ask for the Blues of this world.
The ones who have no voice. The ones who are left broken on the side of the road. The ones who would otherwise die in pain because nobody stopped to care.
Blue deserves so much more than that.
She deserves to know what it feels like to be safe... To be loved... To run and play without pain... To have a future.
So today, I am swallowing my pride and askingโno, beggingโfor your help.
If you can spare R10, R20, R50 or anything at all, every single Rand brings Blue one step closer to the surgery that could save her life.
If you can't donate, please, please share her story. Sometimes the right person sees the right post at the right time.
Thank you to every single person who has stood beside us and believed in Blue. We are not giving up on her.

๐พ **Pet Sitter or Cattery โ Which Is Right for Your Cat?** ๐พ
With so many pet sitters advertising their services, how do you decide which option is best for your cat?
At Catopia, we understand why many owners choose a pet sitter. Every family and every cat is different, and we respect that. This post isn't about saying one option is better than the other-it's about helping owners make an informed decision by understanding the differences.
Firstly, **Catopia is a specialized service.** Anyone can advertise themselves as a pet sitter, but our focus has always been different. We don't specialise in dogs, birds, rabbits, or reptiles. **We specialise exclusively in cats.**
Our entire cattery has been designed around feline behaviour. We've learnt what cats like, what they don't like, how they communicate, when they need space, and when they need reassurance. Every decision we've made has been with cats in mind.
Many owners say,
*"My cat will be happier staying at home."*
Sometimes that's true. But it's also important to consider the risks.
When you hire a pet sitter, ask yourself:
๐พ What experience do they have specifically with cats?
๐พ Do they understand feline body language and stress?
๐พ Are they qualified to administer medication if your cat suddenly needs it?
๐พ What happens if your cat refuses to eat for two or three days?
๐พ Will they recognize the early signs of urinary obstruction, dehydration, or illness? Can they get your cat to the Vet if need be?
๐พ What happens if your cat escapes while they're opening a door or gate?
๐พ If your cat hides under a bed or disappears into the garden, will they know how to safely retrieve them?
๐พ How many times a day do they visit-and who is watching your cat for the other 22 hours?
๐พ If there's an emergency at midnight, who is there?
These aren't criticisms of pet sitters-they're important questions every owner should ask before trusting someone with their beloved pet.
Cats are very different from dogs.
Many dogs are excited to meet new people.
Many cats are not.
A stranger entering a cat's home can be stressful for them, they dont feel safe. Some cats hide immediately and refuse to come out. Others stop eating, while some simply disappear until the visitor has gone. A pet sitter may only see your cat for a few minutes each day and have no way of knowing whether they have eaten the food if there are other pets in the home, drunk enough water, or if an out door cat - what is the consistency of their potty excrement.
At Catopia, your cat may initially experience the normal stress of a new environment, but they are never left to cope alone. We monitor them throughout the day, observe their eating, drinking, litter tray habits and behaviour, and because they are safely contained within their own private suite and outdoor catio, they cannot disappear into the neighbourhood or become lost.
Every guest has:
๐ Their own private indoor room.
๐ฟ Their own secure outdoor catio.
๐พ Constant supervision throughout the day.
๐ฝ๏ธ Daily monitoring of appetite, behaviour, and toileting.
๐ Experienced administration of medication where required.
๐ฅ Immediate recognition if veterinary attention is needed.
Most importantly...
**They are safe.**
No roaming.
No escaping.
No wandering in search of their family.
No cars.
No dogs.
No wondering whether they'll come home.
A reputable cattery should never be compared to a kennel or viewed simply as somewhere to "leave" your cat. It should be a place where cats are understood, respected, monitored, and cared for by people who have dedicated themselves to feline welfare.
Whether you choose a pet sitter or a cattery, the most important thing is to do your research. Ask questions. Read reviews. Visit the facility. Meet the people caring for your cat. Ask about their experience with feline behaviour, medication, emergencies, and stress management.
At the end of the day, no one knows your cat better than you do. Choose the option that gives **you** confidence and gives **your cat** the safest, happiest experience possible.
For us at Catopia, our philosophy has always been simple:
**Where cats always come first** ๐๐พ
