Prepping to deliver a keynote at a Sales Conference on Thursday speaking about my Wealth Personas.

Decided to ‘motivate’ myself with tea and a slice of heavenly carrot cake made by my sister in law.

What you up to today?

Meet my client.

When I met Debbie Combrink for the first time, her energy felt like a fresh summer breeze had just entered the room!

So imagine when I discovered that she owned a Swimwear and Resort Wear Brand called Positano with the taglines: “The art of savouring life’s simple pleasures” and “Live Fabulously”

One of the things that I love about Debbie is that she’s front and centre of her brand, showing those of us who’re not 22 anymore (except in our dreams) that we can look and live fabulously even in a swimsuit!

Heard this recently and loved it!

Again and again, I realise this.

Each step in my business journey, has required me to elevate.

“Fearless mothers raise daughters who believe they can change the world!”

My Mom would have been 94 years young today. What I wouldn't give to be sitting down with her enjoying a cup of tea, obviously served out of bone china tea cups, preferably Royal Albert!

I would wrap my arms around her, hold her tight and tell her just how much I learnt from her and continue to learn from her long after she’s gone.

My Mom was a woman who was way ahead of her time - I’m always astounded that the things I thought were perfectly normal were in actual fact quite abnormal!

At the age of around 19, my Mom decided to head off with her best friend back packing around Europe. And from the photographs I’ve got they had the time of their lives.

My Mom was a business owner way before it even became a ‘thing’ for women to have their own businesses. And one of them was as a partner in a Scrapyard for heavens sake! I asked her once why a scrapyard. Her answer: He needed the money and I saw an opportunity! (Gives me serious Dragon’s Den vibes)

My Mom stood as an independent candidate in the local government elections in South Africa in the 1980s - in the height of apartheid at a time where that could have serious implications to your life. She won her ward - only woman on the town council. I still remember so clearly her rushing out on a Tuesday night to the council meeting - folder under her arm, determination in her eyes and fire in her belly.

My Mom went out and got her 10Ton Truck license after my father shattered his shoulder in an accident so that the business could continue to operate should anything like that happen again.

My Mom was a ‘cold water swimming’ pioneer - She would get up every morning and swim come rain or shine. The last time she was in Cape Town (she was 79) she went sans wetsuit into the ocean at Melkbos - I stood on the side shaking my head and saying: Mom, you’re crazy. (Little did I know that I would grow to loving cold water swimming and Yes Melkbos is my favourite place to swim)

Every time I think of becoming a ‘wallflower’ - I just ask myself: “What would Mom have done?” Works like a charm. And Yes Mom, I’m going to change the world!!

(Pic 1 is me sitting on my Mom’s lap. Pic 2 is my daughter Bianca on my Mom’s lap - it’s one of my favourite pictures of the two of them together.)
