Yesterday, Frikkie van Lier, a car-guard at the Springs Civic Centre entrance, was testing the camera on his new mobile phone when a sudden rumble shook the ground and a black thick jet of fluid erupted from the swampy reed bed, high up into the air. It knocked him off his feet and he dropped his new phone. Security rushed in and within minutes staff streamed out of their offices to see what the commotion and slippery mess was about. After tasting a finger tip sample of the fluid, an amazed Tshepo Shabalala, whose brother is a car mechanic and knows about oil, proclaimed that the fluid was crude Oil. We rich, we rich!! he exclaimed. Later in the morning, Metro spokesperson, Mr Mentira, addressed the media: “We are thrilled at the possibility that our town may be sitting atop vast untapped oil reserves. Springs is back!" he said. Preliminary estimates by DMRE suggest the gusher could produce “enough oil to fund pothole repairs for at least two years” though other experts caution that the substance may, in fact, be “very enthusiastic mud under pressure from underground Zama Zama activity.” Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available, or as soon as someone remembers what day it.

Cable Theft:
* Springs Central, Human detection activated the Smart AI in our state-of-the-art off-site monitoring control room. Suspects seen cutting a telephone cable outside the premises. Armed response units were immediately dispatched. Suspects fled before reaction arrived.
