Pulling your hair tightly back can lead to permanent hair loss due to continuous, high-traction pulling, a condition known as traction alopecia.

Individuals undergoing chemotherapy for cancer or receiving radiation treatment on the head or neck may experience significant hair loss within a few weeks of starting the treatment. The positive aspect is that, typically, hair regrowth begins a few months after completing chemotherapy or radiation. Dermatologists may also provide medications to expedite the regrowth process. Interestingly, the new hair that emerges might exhibit a different color or texture, such as becoming wavy when it was previously straight.

Thyroid issues can contribute to hair thinning, sometimes resulting in hair coming out in clumps during brushing. Addressing the underlying thyroid disease can often reverse the hair loss, as it doesn't cause damage to the hair follicle.
