This is called the Mouse Game
At first glance, it looks simple.
Place a treat on your dog's paw and ask them to wait.
Then another.
And another.
As your dog's skills improve, the challenge increases.
But this game isn't really about the treats.
It's about impulse control.
Your dog can see the reward.
Your dog wants the reward.
Your dog could easily take the reward.
But they learn that making the right choice is more rewarding than acting on impulse.
Impulse control plays an important role in everyday life with your dog.
Waiting politely for food.
Greeting people calmly.
Making better choices when excited.
Learning to pause before reacting.
That's why we love this exercise.
Because training isn't only about teaching dogs what to do.
It's also about teaching them how to think before they act.
