Lumps under the jaw of your young horses? Bone is so freaking kool! Bone is constantly remodelling in the horses body based on the load its under or through natural processes like this video. This process happens both passively and actively depending on what we ask of the horse. Osteoblasts build the bone and osteoclasts break it down. When bone is aggravated it can lay down osseous growth which a clinical term for new bone formation. These are all kinds of different reasons bone can be laid down but the video on on one specific process to do with the teeth. These boney lumps are normally demineralised and reabsorbed causing no long term problems but they can sometimes become infected and cause a problem. I cannot emphasise enough ! Get yourself a PROPER farrier! I see so many horses where their problems stem from poor farriery!
