Today was a day of absolute magic, unforgettable firsts, and immense gratitude. 🐘✨

​The Bitou Victim Support and Courage Club team took our incredible kids on a special trip to the Knysna Elephant Park!
For every single one of these children, today marked the very first time they got to experience one of South Africa’s majestic Big 5 animals up close. They didn't just see them—they got a beautiful tour and even got to hand-feed these gentle giants!

​Seeing the pure joy and wonder on their faces was a reminder of why we do what we do. These children have been through the unimaginable, but today was all about healing, smiles, and creating beautiful new memories.

It is truly God’s work happening right before our eyes, and we feel incredibly blessed and grateful to walk this journey alongside them. ❤️

​Today was an absolutely beautiful day at the Helena House of Safety! We had the absolute pleasure of hosting some incredible volunteers from Greenwood Bay College: Issy, Kayla, Sofia, and Nathan. ❤️

​Instead of just chilling out during their school holidays, these wonderful young people chose to take time out to come and play, connect, and share their joy with our kids. 🎨✨

​It was a fabulous day packed with endless fun, laughter, and so many beautiful arts and creative works! Our kids had the most lovely day with you all, and the smiles on their faces said it all.

​From the Courage Club and the entire BVS Team, thank you so, so, so much! 🙌

🌊 A Day of Ocean Adventure, Growth, and Resilience 💙

​Today, our incredible kids from the Helena House of Safety, Courage Club, and Bitou Victim Support (BVS) traded the ordinary for an extraordinary day of learning and discovery at Central Beach!
​Thanks to the amazing Plett Ocean Aweh-ness Hub, our children participated in a phenomenal marine awareness programme designed just for them. Throughout the day, they dived headfirst into:

​Water Safety Essentials: Learning basic water safety, understanding rip currents, tides, and ocean conditions.

​Marine Biodiversity: Exploring the rich marine life right here in Plettenberg Bay and understanding the vital role of sharks and the marine food web.

​Conservation & Confidence: Gaining real confidence in ocean environments and learning how to protect our beautiful coastline.

​The highlights didn’t stop there—our kids even walked away winning some fantastic prizes! 🏆🎉

​The Reality Behind the Smiles 💔

While today was filled with so much laughter, it also brought a heavy reminder of why our work is so critical. One of our precious children had to miss out on all the fun and sunshine today because they had to attend a court proceeding.
​It breaks our hearts. Every single child should have the absolute right to just be a kid—to play, learn, and feel safe without a care in the world. It is a painful reality that when an adult chooses to abuse a child, that child is stripped of those fundamental rights.

​To our brave little guy who missed out today: Don't you worry, we see you, and we are already planning to make up for every bit of the fun you missed! 🕵️‍♂️✨

Despite the hurdles, we are incredibly proud to report that all our kiddos are home, safe, happy, and smiling.

🎨 Creativity, Clay & Community! 🎨

​Yesterday, our Bitou Victim Support office was filled with laughter, messy hands, and incredible imagination during our Kids Play session with the BVS and Courage Club team!

​Our amazing Claudia brought clay all the way from Cape Town, teaching the children how to shape their ideas into art. Safe to say, it was a massive hit! Looking at their creations, it’s clear how much our kids love expressing themselves through art.

​What’s better than an early morning beach trip? An early morning beach trip with PENGUINS, of course!

​Our amazing kids got to experience the absolute magic of a Plettenberg Bay sunrise today, but the real highlight? Joining the BVS team to witness a spectacular penguin release!

​Watching these little guys waddle, hop, and finally dive back into the big blue ocean was the perfect reminder of new beginnings, resilience, and pure joy.

​Today was incredibly special for all of us at Bitou Victim Support. We finally got to spend some quality, long-awaited time with our beautiful children, and what a day it was! The park was filled with endless laughter, games, and so much fun. Watching our young warriors just get to be kids, play, and smile is the greatest reminder of why we do what we do. 💛

On a tougher note, the recent storm hit us hard, and the Helena House of Safety unfortunately sustained quite a bit of storm damage. 💔
​We are resilient, but we can't rebuild alone. If you would like to get involved, lend a hand, or help in any way possible to get our safe space fully restored, please get in touch with us directly via DM. Every single bit counts, no matter how small.
