The Pink Duck 🦆🩷

If you’re looking for bold, authentic Thai food, The Pink Duck is it.

Small but solid menu, friendly service, and iced coffee that actually cuts through a Durban summer (high praise 👏🏼).

What we ordered:
🥟 Prawn & chicken dumplings — spicy surprise, ask for sauce on the side if you’re sensitive. Packed with flavour.
🍜 Vegetable Pad Thai, one of the best I’ve had since Thailand 10 years ago. No notes. 10/10
🍤 Prawns with noodles, bold, balanced, and generously loaded with proper prawns (not sad shrimp). 9.5/10
🍍 Ginger chicken & pineapple, tender and tasty, just wished for a bit more ginger kick. 8/10

Dessert was non-negotiable.
🥥 Coconut cheesecake with passion fruit, fought over the last bite. 8/10
🍦 Coconut ice cream with grilled pineapple, a match made in heaven. 8.5/10

Can I bitch?
Nope.

Will I be dreaming about this meal back in Cape Town?
Absolutely.

📍The Pink Duck, Durban North

Kicking off the holiday in Durban North at a local breakfast spot my bestie has been hyping up for years.
She swears this Eggs Benny is THE best. And as a self-confessed Eggs Benny obsessive, I obviously had to investigate. For science.

The restaurant sits in a quaint little space inside the Glenore Centre, surrounded by second-hand clothes, books, and charming odds and ends. Very “accidentally stayed for breakfast and left with a novel” energy.
It was peak summer and absolutely pouring with rain - casual. There’s indoor and outdoor seating, and a menu broad enough to keep the whole family from arguing.

Service was a little slow, but with only three people working during mid-season, it was expected. Friendly smiles and genuinely warm service softened the wait, and honestly, I’d rather wait a bit than be rushed by someone who hates their job.

We ordered the Salmon Eggs Benny with Citrus Hollandaise.

☕ Coffee: 10/10
(And yes, I am a coffee snob. I said what I said.)

🍽 Eggs Benny arrival:
Presentation: 7/10
Taste & flavour: 11/10

That citrus hollandaise? Chef’s kiss. Bright but not overpowering, with a subtle undertone that perfectly complements the salmon and eggs instead of stealing the spotlight.

Now listen — as a Cape Town girlie paying R110 for an Eggs Benny, I wasn’t expecting much salmon. But BABY. This was the most salmon I have ever received on a Benny. Layered. Generous. Borderline emotional.
My word. This is what dreams — and good decisions — are made of.

So… was the bestie telling the truth?
Apparently.

If you find yourself at the Glenore Centre in Durban North and need a solid breakfast that delivers where it counts, I highly recommend this spot.

Would I bitch?
Not today.

Shew its been some time since hoping onto this page.
Things have changed, shifted and immense growth has happened on a personal level. No more self doubt or anxiety when stepping into the kitchen.

(So happy to have worked through that, remembering my skills and worth and realising no one can actually take that away from me.I make amazing food damnit)

I'm so ready to make magick again in the kitchen, my happy place for creativity.

Anyhooo how beautiful is this Jerusalem artichoke flower also known as wild sunflowes?
Have you eaten this root vegetable before?
