Improve the way you move

The body is an unbelievable vehicle designed to bend and fold, twist and turn. It’s created to move effectively and efficiently.

When we get injured we naturally restrict movement out of fear of re-injuring and to protect the sight of injury.

Upon initial assessment my focus is to understand how the body is currently restricted vs how it should be moving, with the priority to restore optimal ability to move and the confidence to continue doing so.

Common causes of injuries for the endurance athlete

The endurance athlete usually walks through the door here with very similar symptoms to the previous athlete. Needless to say all cases are unique but often we find trends that present in a similar fashion.

The first questions that we as practitioners will ask is “Has there been any change to your current training routine?”

The common answers conclude in
- Too far too soon
- Too fast too early
- Too much with insufficient recovery
- Recent change in equipment (eg. Shoes, bike, etc)

By coupling a short rest period with small adjustments to load, pace, distance, etc we can ensure the athlete is back at training as early as possible.

When dealing with a triathlete for example we can usually maintain the state of fitness by focusing on the other disciplines will we encourage healing for the provocative discipline.
