→ Doors locked at all times

→ Windows up in quiet areas

→ Bags and valuables out of sight

👀 VISIBILITY

→ Clean your windscreen inside AND outside — smearing kills night vision

→ Adjust mirrors to reduce glare from cars behind you

🚶 PEDESTRIANS

→ They wear dark clothing and walk on the road at night

→ Slow down in residential areas — especially near taverns

⚡ FATIGUE

→ If you feel sleepy — pull over safely and rest 20 minutes

→ Fatigue is as dangerous as drunk driving

🔍 BEFORE YOU HAND OVER YOUR CAR KEYS — CHECK THESE 5 THINGS.

Too many car owners in Gauteng hand their vehicle to a stranger and hope for the best.

Here is what to verify BEFORE any driver touches your car:

1️⃣ VALID DRIVER'S LICENCE — Check it physically. Check the expiry date.

2️⃣ PrDP — Required by law for e-hailing. No PrDP = operating illegally.

3️⃣ PLATFORM RATING — Ask for their Uber or Bolt rating. Below 4.5 is a red flag.

4️⃣ REFERENCES — Ask for the last car owner they rented from. Call that person.

5️⃣ CRIMINAL RECORD — Ask for a police clearance certificate.

The right driver will not be offended by these checks.
The wrong driver will be. 🙏

🌫️ MORNING FOG

→ Switch headlights ON even in daylight
→ Reduce speed — visibility drops fast on the East Rand
→ Never use hazards while moving — it blinds other drivers

🌡️ COLD ENGINE

→ Let your engine warm up for 2–3 minutes before moving
→ Cold starts put serious strain on oil circulation
→ Check your oil level more frequently in winter

🧊 FROSTY WINDSCREEN

→ NEVER pour hot water on a frozen windscreen — it cracks the glass
→ Use an ice scraper or wait for the heater to clear it
→ Always carry a small cloth to clear condensation inside

🔋 WEAK BATTERY

→ Cold weather kills old batteries faster than anything
→ If your car is slow to start in the mornings — get the battery tested now
→ A dead battery in the middle of a shift costs you the whole day
