Some days, you're the one who didn't make it.

Last weekend at Bigway Camp, I was part of a 16-way skydiving formation. Except not quite. I was the only one who didn't reach it.

It was hard. These things are.

But my coach saw it differently. He didn't see a gap in the formation. He saw someone who was still in the jump.

That stayed with me all weekend.

I thought about Lewis Hamilton. Seven world championships. The most decorated driver in Formula One history. And yet 2025 was the worst season of his career. Not a single podium. But he stayed in the car. Two races into 2026, he was back on the podium.

I thought about the Springbok squad announced earlier this year. Forty-nine players called up. And dozens more who trained just as hard, came just as close, and didn't hear their name called. Not yet. Missing out is not the same as being finished.

Everyone who has built something worthwhile has collected more hard days than good ones. Most of those hard days arrived disguised as mistakes. But they were clues. Each one pointing toward a better way through.

The question is never whether the hard days will come. They will. The question is whether you will be ready when they do.

Last week, four vehicles filled with donated food, blankets, clothing, and essential supplies were delivered from our offices to the George Disaster Management Centre.

What came through our doors over those few days was a reminder of something deeply reassuring about this community. People showed up. Quietly, generously, and without hesitation.

To every person who dropped off donations, shared the message, or reached out to ask how they could help, THANK YOU. Whether you were a long-standing client, a neighbouring business, a friend, or someone we had never met before, every contribution mattered.

We would also like to thank the George Municipality and the George Disaster Management Centre for the work being done across the region to support affected families and coordinate relief efforts during a very difficult week.

Thank you as well to the George Herald for helping keep the community informed and for amplifying local relief initiatives throughout the week.

In late March, The One Financial Solution was proud to be among the sponsors of the South African National Skydiving Championships in Robertson.

The event showcased exceptional talent across multiple disciplines. Our involvement was driven by something more considered.

High-risk activities like skydiving surface a broader truth in financial planning: not all risk is equally understood, and not all risk is equally covered.

Many traditional life and disability policies carry exclusions or limitations around high-risk pursuits. These gaps are often only discovered when it matters most.

As advisors, that is where our responsibility lies.

During the event, we ran a survey across the skydiving community. The objective was clear: to better understand how individuals exposed to non-traditional risk are currently covered, and where the gaps sit.

The insight forms part of a broader initiative. We are developing more relevant, tailored risk solutions for clients whose lives extend beyond the standard underwriting picture.

Our owner and lead principal, Isobel Rohwer, is not only an advisor but an active participant in the sport. She competed at Nationals in the 2-Way FS Open category. That dual perspective, professional and personal, allows her to approach risk with greater depth, clarity, and precision.

Participants who completed the survey were entered into a draw. Congratulations to Simon Bak, who has won R2 500 towards his jump account at a dropzone of his choice.
