What is liquid based cytology(LBC)?
LBC is an improved cell sampling method. Cervical cells are collected in the same manner with a cervical brush, but instead of spreading the cells on a glass slide ,the clinician places the tip of the brush into a small bottle containing a liquid that immediately preserves the cells. This method allows for improved sampling of cervical cells and more accurate detection of abnormal cells.The incidence of cervical cancer worldwide has seen a significant reduction with increased use of LBC ,compared to standard pap smear screening.
