Ahead of the 114th International Labour Conference, StreetNet International has released its position paper on the platform economy and the digitalisation of the informal economy.

The paper examines both the opportunities and risks of digitalisation for street and market vendors, from access to new markets and digital payments to concerns around surveillance, exclusion, algorithmic control, and unequal access to technology.

StreetNet calls for a worker-centred approach to digitalisation — one that protects rights, promotes inclusion, and ensures that technological change contributes to decent work rather than deepening existing inequalities.
