Today was one of the longest driving days of the expedition as we made our way from the Stampriet area to the coast.
Our convoy split into two groups this morning. Some of the families needed to stop in Swakopmund to take care of a few things and travelled via Windhoek, while the remaining six vehiclesโ including all five BorderX caravansโchose the scenic route through Solitaire.
And what a drive it was! The roads were in the best condition weโve ever experienced on this route, making for an incredibly enjoyable day behind the wheel. The vast Namibian landscapes never disappoint, and every kilometre reminded us why this country is such a favourite destination.
Of course, no trip through Solitaire is complete without stopping for their legendary apple pie and a good cup of coffee. We also took the opportunity to line up all five BorderX caravans for a few memorable photos against the iconic desert backdrop.
After a long day on the road, we finally rolled into Swakopmund just after 19:00. With everyone ready to relax, takeaways were the obvious choice before settling in for the night at Windpomp 14.

๐ณ๐ฆ Day 4 | South Africa โ Namibia
An early start this morning with wheels rolling at 06:45 as we made our way towards the Rietfontein Border Post. Despite all the warnings, the road was actually in good condition and made for an enjoyable drive.
Crossing the border was an adventure on its own. The staff on both the South African and Namibian sides were very friendly, but the post was clearly not quite geared for a group as big as ours. It took around 2.5 hours to get everyone through.
Our group mainly had to part with a few forgotten items in the caravans โ tinned condensed milk, ideal milk, long-life cream and long-life milk.
Of course, no road trip is complete without a good coffee stop... and Ashem delivered the most incredible milk tart! Definitely one to remember.
Todayโs goal was simply to make good progress and reach our next overnight stop near Stampriet.
Now this is where the day became really special. This isnโt an official campsite at all, but rather a beautiful spot on the farm of friends of the family weโre travelling with. We were incredibly fortunate to spend the evening here, surrounded by breathtaking views and true Namibian hospitality.
To top it all off, our hosts treated us to an unforgettable lamb braai under the African sky. Experiences like these are what make overlanding so special.
Who knows... maybe weโve managed to convince them to turn this hidden gem into an official campsite one day! ๐

Yesterday our Namibia adventure officially began.
We kept the first day short with a drive from Centurion to Klerksdorp, where we celebrated a very special milestoneโDesnaโs parentsโ ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐๐ต ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฎ๐ป๐ป๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐. It was wonderful to spend some time with them before disappearing into the wide open spaces for the next few weeks.
We ended the evening with supper at Voerkraal Restaurant. What an absolute treat! If youโre ever in Klerksdorp, we can highly recommend it. ๐
Now the adventure really beginsโฆ
