ICASA is seeking 10 representatives from licensed broadcasters and network services to voluntarily join the organisation's Digital Sound Broadcasting Technical Advisory Group (DTAG). The core responsibility of the advisory group is to provide recommendations to ICASA on various technical matters, including frequency planning, licensing frameworks and related topics.

🌍🛡️As South Africa marks the conclusion of Child Protection Week, recognised annually from 29 May - 05 June, ICASA takes this opportunity to reflect on an important milestone in advancing child online protection globally, through the recent approval of Recommendation ITU-T X.1901 framework on information security, cybersecurity and privacy protection.

The Recommendation marks a significant step towards creating a safer digital environment for children by providing guidance on age assurance. This achievement was made possible through strong collaboration between ITU-T Study Group 17, where South Africa serves as Vice-Chair, and ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 27/WG 5.

This milestone reflects South Africa’s contribution to global digital policy development and demonstrates the value of active participation by South Africa (ICASA and the Department of Communications & Digital Technologies.) in building a safer digital environment for children worldwide.

📍Today, ICASA Chairperson Mothibi Glenview Ramusi, together with Councillors and Executive Management, held a strategic engagement with Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) Chairperson Mosotho Moepya, Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo, and Commissioners Janet Love and Dhaya Pillay.

As Chapter 9 institutions established to strengthen and support South Africa’s constitutional democracy, ICASA and the IEC discussed areas of mutual interest, including communications infrastructure readiness, election broadcasting regulations, digital information integrity, and the growing challenges of misinformation and disinformation in the digital era.

The engagement reaffirmed the importance of collaboration in safeguarding electoral integrity and advancing South Africa's constitutional democracy.

📢Following an impactful series of mid-month workshops, we are pleased to announce the final leg of the Invitation to Pre-Register (ITP-R) for Community Television in the following provinces:

• Limpopo
• Eastern Cape
• Free State
• KwaZulu-Natal
