I believe in forgiveness because it brings me peace. But forgiveness isn’t the same thing as forgetting the lesson. I will not hate you, but I will not come close enough to let you hurt me again. Trust, when broken, is not easy to rebuild. I have a good heart, but I’m not going to let my goodness stand in the way of my good sense. Forgiving is strong, but defending myself is wise.
