"Unlocking the Key to Safe and Efficient Tanker Offloading Operations: The Power of Ullage Calculation Training"
For months, we've delved deep into the causes behind a concerning trend of incidents related to spillages during tanker offloading operations. Our investigation has led us to a crucial factor that can make all the difference: ullage calculation. While some fuel retail sites in South Africa have embraced automated gauge tank systems to determine delivery capacity, numerous others still rely on manual dipping before offloading begins.
In a recent survey conducted among drivers in our database, we made a startling discovery. Many drivers demonstrated a lack of understanding when it comes to ullage and its calculation. While some used a 2 percent ullage, others filled tanks to 95 percent, leaving a 5 percent ullage. Astonishingly, some drivers left a 10 percent ullage as per oil company policy.
This disparity in knowledge and practice poses a serious risk.
We also sought to uncover the extent of ullage training documented in relevant unit standards. Despite communicating with several driver trainers, we found that while drivers generally grasp the concept of ullage and its importance, they often lack the necessary tools and certified training to calculate it accurately. This knowledge gap has direct consequences, as overfills resulting from incorrect ullage calculations can lead to dangerous spillages.
At SMARTLearna©, we are driven by our passion for driver education. We firmly believe that ullage calculation is not just an essential tool for tanker drivers but a fundamental aspect of their trade. Understanding what ullage is and comprehending the consequences of inaccurate calculations are crucial skills needed to excel in their roles.
That's why the dedicated team at SMARTLearna© has developed a comprehensive training module focused solely on ullage calculation. We are committed to equipping drivers with the right knowledge, skills, and tools to ensure safe and efficient operations, mitigating the risk of spills and accidents.
If you're ready to empower your drivers and revolutionize your tanker operations, don't hesitate to reach out to us.
Together, we can make a significant impact in the industry, one ullage calculation at a time.
