Over the last couple of months we took the time to reflect on our next steps at Lulasclan, we had hit a much needed pause, faced with growth challenges that called for an inward reflection to guide us back to our North Star.

The truth is starting a business is easy and might even look like it’s all glamourous and well put together, but what goes on behind it all, in keeping it going and ensuring that the doors remain open, and jobs are secured amidst volatile factors such as global and economical challenges, consumer purchase behavioural changes, and making designer pieces right here at home had really stretched us to a breaking point.

While we approach our 10 year mark, we realised in order to create an impact to cutapilt the African design language and story we so much want to share with the world, we needed to go back to learning and not the drawing board of creating and releasing another collection as a quick solve, but to really peel back the layers and allow ourselves to transition into a space that is uncomfortable, and requires absolute vulnerability, and intentionality.

The ventures foundation was our divine intervention, over the last 2 days we engaged with some of Africa’s treasured minds, expert panel of mentors and stepped into a room where we could unpack and collaboratively solve each designer-led businesses pain point.

Within the room there was a shared stand out common goal that we all want Africa to win, that we want to create an impact in the world, to document our cultural heritage stories and create world class sustainable businesses, that not only looked premium but had the solid foundations, systems and infrastructure that can contribute to support future creatives and pioneers of the world.

While the dust is still settling, we walk away with so much knowledge, where we felt stuck, we’ve found practical solutions, where we thought was the end, we’ve found a fresh revived spirit and direction, a big thank you to for your hospitality and imparted knowledge and all the partners, and esteemed panel of experts for your shared contribution.
