Come join the fun and give thanks to 2021 with colleagues and friends! We have had such great connection through our online supervision this year and hope to be able to continue in 2022.

We haven't posted in a while but hope that everyone is doing well and surviving this upside-down year!
The social work profession has certainly been thrown into the spotlight of this pandemic as professionals find themselves overwhelmed with intense cases. When assessing clients currently, social workers can't avoid the context of the pandemic in assessment and how it has affected the client's coping abilities. This being said, social workers are confronted with their own pandemic stories and we hope that they are looking after themselves during this time too.

Thank you to all the amazing social workers out there on the frontline! We see you and we salute you! Stay safe!

Many people think they know what social workers do but few understand the real challenges that are faced in the field and the responsibilities social workers carry long afterwards.

"Social work is about facilitating the challenges and strengths of little systems—like people—with the challenges and strengths of big systems—like communities, governments, countries".

Someone once said that social work is that place “where the individual and society reach out for one another.”

Think about that.

That’s a BIG idea.

So, you’re always thinking about at least two things at the same time. How to help both the little guy and society at the same time. One has to be able to think like a juggler, or a surfer, or any master of multiple dimensions in motion.

Let's put it into context...

A man falls into a ditch and you help him out: you’ve helped a man out of a ditch.

Another man falls into the ditch and you help him out: you’ve helped another man out of a ditch.

Another man falls into a ditch and the social worker, reaching down to help the man, cries out to all those who will listen:
“Hey, people!
Folks keep falling into this ditch!
Can we all get together to think about doing something about this?
How about a bridge?! Or a tunnel?! Does this ditch need to be here?
Could we lay a pipe in there and cover this thing up?
Waddya all think?”
