Before you give a handout, think about the 5 stages of “toxic charity.” 🧠

Sometimes, what starts as kindness can unintentionally create dependency instead of real change. Repeated one-way giving can shift a person’s mindset — from gratitude to expectation, and eventually, dependency.

The 5 Stages of Toxic Charity:
1️⃣ Appreciation – The person is grateful for the first gift. 🎁
2️⃣ Anticipation – The second time, they begin to look forward to it. 😊
3️⃣ Expectation – By the third time, they expect it. 🙁
4️⃣ Entitlement – The fourth time, they feel it’s owed to them. 😤
5️⃣ Dependency – Eventually, they rely completely on it. 😡

Let’s focus on helping people off the streets and into new opportunities — not keeping them stuck.
