๐Ÿ”Ž Neurodiversity 101: Key Terms Leaders Should Know

This carousel is the first in our series on neurodiversity in the workplace. Our aim is to clarify the language around neurodiversity so that leaders, managers, and consultants can build truly inclusive environments.

In this first carousel of our series, we break down key terms like:

โœ”๏ธ Neurotypical vs Neurodivergent
โœ”๏ธ Neurodiversity vs Neurodiverse
โœ”๏ธ Neurominorities in the workplace

Understanding the language is the first step to building cultures where all ways of thinking are valued.

๐Ÿš— Good Access in Action โ€“ Riversdal ๐Ÿš—
Meet Hennie and Lynette Truter โ€” business owners who have turned accessibility into action.

When they built the parking lot for their property in Riversdal they didnโ€™t just tick boxes. They consulted directly with residents from the Wallace Anderson Home for Persons with Disabilities in Riversdal and worked with an architect to make sure the space would work in real life, not just on paper.

The result?
โœ… A large, clearly marked accessible bay
โœ… Smooth, uninterrupted route from car to pavement
โœ… Thoughtful design that welcomes everyone

This is what leadership in Universal Access looks like. And hereโ€™s our one recommendation to make it even better: install a 2 m vertical pole with the blue wheelchair sign so the space is visible from all angles and protected from misuse.

Architects, developers, and business owners โ€” hereโ€™s the takeaway: talk to the people who will use your space, design with their needs in mind, and youโ€™ll create something that works for everyone.

๐Ÿ‘ Letโ€™s celebrate Hennie and Lynette for setting a high standard in inclusive design.
