Some useful tips on keeping your money safe!

1. Use RFID-blocking Technology
• Invest in an RFID-blocking wallet, sleeve, or card to prevent unauthorized scanning of your card's information. These block the signals used by scammers to "tap" your card remotely.

That was the best decision I made, it's safer and so much easier to carry around.

2. Be Mindful of Contactless Payments
• Tap your card yourself: Avoid handing your card to someone else to complete the transaction.
• Hold your card securely and close to the payment terminal to reduce exposure to unauthorized devices.

3. Inspect the Payment Terminal
• Look for signs of tampering on the card reader or payment terminal.
• If something looks suspicious (loose parts, additional devices, or unusual behavior), report it to the shop and avoid using that terminal.

4. Use Mobile Payment Apps
• Use mobile wallets (e.g., Apple Pay, Google Pay) instead of physical cards. These apps use tokenization, which adds an extra layer of encryption and keeps your actual card details secure.

5. Cover the Keypad
• When entering your PIN, always cover the keypad with your other hand to prevent anyone from seeing your input.

6. Stay Alert in Crowded Spaces
• Scammers can use skimming devices or RFID scanners in crowded areas. Be vigilant about where your card is and who’s around you.

7. Limit Contactless Limits
• Request a lower contactless payment limit from your bank. This minimizes losses in case of unauthorized transactions.

8. Regularly Monitor Your Statements
• Check your bank statements and transaction history frequently for unauthorized charges.
• Enable transaction notifications for real-time alerts on card usage.

9. Use a Card with Additional Security Features
• Some cards allow you to disable contactless payments or temporarily lock your card through a mobile app.

10. Report Issues Immediately
• If you suspect fraudulent activity, contact your bank immediately to freeze your card and investigate the issue.

By following these steps, you can significantly reduce the risk of being targeted by scammers while shopping. 21/02/2025
