A Dry Spring. A Thirsty Community:
This photo in the poster was taken yesterday by a community member, 01 July 2026, at one of the springs in Seaview Community that Pondoland Pride has adopted for water quality monitoring.
This is not just a dry spring, this is a family forced to spend the little money they have on buying water from local vendors instead of buying food, school supplies, or other basic necessities. For many households in Seaview and surrounding areas, winter does not only bring cold weather, it brings water insecurity too. As these springs dry up, the most vulnerable families bear the greatest burden. Access to safe water becomes a daily struggle, and a basic human right becomes a privilege that many cannot afford.
Pondoland Pride continues to work hand in hand with community leaders and the Seaview Water Committee to monitor water quality, identify sustainable solutions, and advocate for lasting change. But this challenge is bigger than one small organisation. We cannot solve this crisis alone. We are calling on government, the private sector, NGOs, researchers, donors, and every person who believes that water is a basic human right to stand with the Seaview Community. Together, we can restore dignity, improve livelihoods, and build long-term water resilience.
We are deeply grateful to Roll It Home for their generous giveaway. It is a meaningful first step towards creating positive change. Sustainable solutions will require collaboration, investment, and collective action. No family should have to choose between buying water and buying food. No child or woman should have to walk kilometres to fetch water because a spring has run dry. The time to act is now. 💙

Today, Pondoland Pride and Voli Waste represented by Mr. Mzolisi Msuthu Madikizela, proudly participated in an important recycling awareness and empowerment session facilitated by PETCO representative Ms Sibongile Ncane. The event brought together key stakeholders committed to advancing sustainable waste management and strengthening opportunities for waste pickers within our communities.
Representatives from the Wild Coast Sun were also in attendance, demonstrating the value of collaborative partnerships in driving environmental stewardship and community development.
The session provided valuable insights into PETCO’s role in promoting recycling and the circular economy, while educating waste pickers on recyclable materials that can be collected and diverted from landfill sites. In addition to PET plastic bottles, participants were introduced to Tetra Pak packaging as another recyclable resource with economic value, learning how to correctly identify and separate these materials for collection.
Representing both Pondoland Pride and Voli Waste, Mr. Madikizela shared insights into ongoing waste beneficiation initiatives and highlighted the potential of recycling to create environmental, social, and economic value. His contribution emphasized the importance of empowering waste pickers with knowledge, market access, and opportunities to participate meaningfully in the circular economy.
The announcement that Voli Waste will purchase both PET bottles and Tetra Pak materials collected by waste pickers operating at the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality Landfill Site marks an important step toward supporting livelihoods while reducing waste destined for landfill.
Through collaborative initiatives such as these, waste pickers are empowered as environmental stewards and agents of change, helping to build cleaner communities, strengthen local economies, and create a more sustainable future for all.

Step into deep time at the Petrified Forest of Mzamba Beach, where ancient history meets living education.
This is not just a hike; it is a journey through millions of years of Earth’s story. The Petrified Forest showcases fossilised tree remains embedded in stone, offering rare insight into how landscapes, climates, and ecosystems have transformed over time. Walking through this natural classroom brings geology, biodiversity, and environmental change to life in a way no textbook ever can.
More importantly, this experience connects us to the urgent message of environmental conservation and sustainable management. By understanding how fragile and powerful natural systems are, we are reminded of our responsibility to protect today’s ecosystems for future generations.
•| Educational Beach Hike at Mzamba Beach
•| Explore the Petrified Forest and coastal ecosystems
•| Learn about fossils, geology, and environmental change
•| Connect science with real-world conservation
Please note: Only learners aged 8 years and above will be allowed to participate.
Spaces are limited, book your place and be part of a powerful outdoor learning experience where science meets nature, and curiosity becomes discovery.
Walk the past. Learn the present. Protect the future.

At Pondoland Pride, we understand the daily hardships faced by many low-income households in rural areas who still do not have access to safe and reliable drinking water.
For many low-income families, accessing clean water is not as simple as turning on a tap. Some households are forced to buy water from local vendors, placing additional financial pressure on already struggling families. Others have no choice but to collect untreated water from springs, streams, and rivers, exposing themselves to potential health risks from waterborne diseases.
The situation becomes even more challenging during the winter months. Many natural springs begin to run dry during the day, forcing community members especially women and children to fetch water late in the evening, often walking and facing safety concerns. Access to clean water is a basic human right and a foundation for good health dignity, and economic development. No household have to choose between buying water and meeting other essential household needs.
We call upon government departments, municipalities, development agencies, private sector partners, and civil society organizations to work together to:
•| Improve access to safe and reliable water infrastructure in rural communities.
•| Protect and restore natural water sources. •| Invest in sustainable water solutions for underserved areas.
•| Strengthen community participation in water management and monitoring.
•| Ensure that every household has access to safe drinking water.
Together, we can end water poverty and build healthier, more resilient communities.

Today, on World Ocean Day, Pondoland Pride joins the global community in celebrating and advocating for the protection of our oceans under the 2026 action theme: "Strong Marine Protected Areas for Our Blue Planet."
The ocean is far more than a vast body of water. It regulates our climate, supports incredible biodiversity, sustains livelihoods, provides food security, and holds immense scientific and medicinal value. Healthy oceans are essential for a healthy planet.
For us at Pondoland Pride, this day is especially significant. Several of the rural communities and villages we serve in the Pondoland are located along the beautiful Pondoland Marine Protected Area, one of South Africa's most important marine conservation areas. This unique coastline is home to rich marine ecosystems that support local livelihoods, cultural heritage, tourism, and biodiversity. Through environmental education let us promote the importance of protecting our coastal and marine resources for present and future generations.
As world leaders work towards achieving the 30×30 target, we all have a role to play:
Reduce pollution and waste.
Support sustainable use of marine resources.
Protect coastal ecosystems.
Educate and inspire others about ocean conservation.
Champion strong and effective Marine Protected Areas.
Together, we can help build a global network of Marine Protected Areas that restores ecosystems, strengthens resilience, and secures a healthier future for people and nature. The ocean connects us all. Let's protect it for today, for tomorrow, and for generations to come.

Today, as the world celebrates World Environment Day 2026, Pondoland Pride joins millions of people across the globe in answering the urgent call: .
Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the campaign reminds us that climate change is no longer a distant threat, it is happening now.
Rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, stronger storms, droughts, and the loss of biodiversity are all warning signs that demand immediate action. As South Africans, we also observe June as National Environment Month, a time to reflect on our relationship with nature and strengthen our commitment to protecting the environment for future generations.
At Pondoland Pride, we believe that climate action begins in our communities. Through environmental education, citizen science, water stewardship, waste reduction, ecosystem restoration, and youth empowerment, we are helping to build a more climate-resilient and sustainable future for Pondoland and beyond.
Every tree planted matters.
Every water source (spring/river/ wetland) protected matters.
Every young person educated matters.
Every action for the planet matters.
The transition to a greener future cannot wait. Together, let us embrace renewable energy, protect our natural resources, reduce pollution, and become active stewards of the environment. The climate challenge is now. The solutions are now. The time to act is .
Happy World Environment Day!
