π§ Tomorrow is the big day! π
After rescue, rehabilitation, care and recovery, these five African penguins are ready to take their next step β back where they belong. π§π§π§π§π§
Each penguin has faced its own challenges β from injuries and illness to being underweight and needing a safe place to recover. Thanks to the incredible dedication of everyone involved in their rescue and rehabilitation, they are now ready for their return to the wild.
Join us tomorrow morning as we watch them take their first steps back into the ocean. π

π§Meet Easter β one of the African penguins preparing to return to the wild! π§
FOUND: Central Beach
WEIGHT: 2.9kg
DATE: 04/04/2026
As per Keri at Tenikwa, here is Easter's story:
βEaster was found moulting on a very busy beach in Plettenberg Bay on Easter weekend, hence her name. It was her first moult and they usually go back to their colony where they hatched to moult and to breed, but where she was found means she was travelling to find food and started her moult before she could get back to her colony so as she was no longer waterproof she needed to get to dry land. And a penguin on any beach where there is not a colony is a penguin in trouble. So she came to us at Tenikwa where she continued and finished her moult where she was safe. She soon joined the other penguins and has been doing really well. She would have been ready for release sooner than most of the others, but it is safer to release at least 2 or 3 of them, and the weather was not on our side. So as soon as Ocean Sailing Charters lets us know when the weather will be good for a release then Easter and her buddies will all go back to where they belong.β
π Easterβs story shows how important it is to recognise when a penguin is in trouble. A lone African penguin away from a breeding colony may need help, and quick intervention can make all the difference.
Join us this Saturday, 20 June as Easter and other rescued African penguins return home.
