Allmech was recently featured in Engineering & Mining Africa Magazine for a project involving a medical supply customer. The client required an urgent and uninterrupted supply of softened water for their sterilisation processes.
Our technical team delivered a solution within two days by utilising a Runxin 3-way L-type ceramic ball valve to manage two softener vessels in a continuous-duty configuration. This innovative approach ensured a constant supply of treated water without the downtime usually required during regeneration.
The use of ceramic ball valve technology provided the necessary wear resistance and a leak-proof seal for this critical medical application. This project highlights our ability to provide engineered solutions quickly by using the versatile Runxin components we maintain in our local Johannesburg stock.

The Real Cost of Undersizing Your Water Treatment System
Choosing a water treatment plant based solely on the lowest initial capital cost often leads to significant operational expenses later on.
When systems are undersized or poorly specified, the result is almost always equipment failure, increased downtime and costly production delays.
Proper system design requires a detailed analysis of the specific water quality on site. This data-driven approach ensures that the equipment can handle the required flow rates without putting undue stress on the components. For example, in electrode boilers, correct sizing of the softener is vital to prevent the build-up of calcium scale, which acts as an insulator and thus increases your costs.
Clients who invest in correctly specified systems often see decades of reliable service. We have customers who have followed our technical recommendations for over 15 years and have required only minimal specialised maintenance during that time.
Our Managing Director, Lionel Maasdorp, recently discussed these technical risks and the importance of data-driven sizing in a feature for MechChem Africa.
If you missed the article, you can find the full technical breakdown on page 35 of the November-December issue.
