AMBO Marcom

The Drokpas are a nomadic tribe of yak herders that roam the high mountain lands of Sikkim and Tibet, grazing their livestock.

In the old days, they moved about freely between the two countries. After the Sikkim-Tibet borders closed in 1962, the Drokpa families that remained on the Sikkim side of the border were cut off from the rest of their Tribe and their winter pastures.

Today there are only a few families that still practise their old way of life.

Every Year, on the occasion of Drukpa Tse Shi, they gather in the beautiful Lasher Valley to offer prayers and celebrate life.
