Credit : EXCLUSIVE: Ras Baraka is a lifelong activist, poet, community leader and now, the mayor of Newark, New Jersey, is running to become the Democratic nominee for Governor.
With a crowded field of candidates that are focused mostly on being anti-Trump, I wanted to talk to Ras Baraka about his progressive politics and how he thinks Democrats should be winning back voters they lost in 2024.
Baraka spoke to me about why he thinks Democrats in power say progressives can’t win elections. He also spoke about the approach the party needs to take to earn the trust of voters, policies Democrats should focus on and the responsibility of the press in this era of American politics.

I spent the afternoon in Tewksbury with committed Democrats who refuse to let our democracy slip away. We need a leader who will fiercely protect the Constitution and build an economy that leaves no one behind. On June 10, let’s vote Ras Baraka for real change.
