01/10/2025
In recognition of International Deaf Week 2025, the Samoa Association of Sign Language Interpreters (SASLI) had the honour of conducting a Sign Language Training Session for the staff of the Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority (SFESA) on 01 October 2025, at the SFESA Conference Room in Tuanaimato.
This year’s theme, “No Human Rights Without Sign Language Rights,” reinforces the importance of inclusive communication in all essential services, including emergency response.
This collaborative initiative between SASLI and SFESA represents a vital step towards strengthening the capacity of emergency service personnel to engage effectively with members of the Deaf community during times of crisis.
We sincerely thank the New Zealand High Commission to Samoa for their generous financial support, which made this training possible. ✨
Fa’afetai tele lava to the Commissioner and management of SFESA for their leadership and support, and to all SFESA staff for their commitment to inclusivity and for embracing Sign Language as a bridge to safer, more responsive emergency services. 👏
