This is our House Blend for your espresso based coffee and cold brew coffee ☕️ When roasting coffee for espresso, we typically roast the coffee longer than we would for an average filter roast. This is not to say that there is such a thing as just espresso beans, because any coffee or style roast can be brewed with any brewing methods. Although, there are a few reasons why we generally roast coffee for espresso longer and/or darker.
In general, a longer roast is much easier to dial in on an espresso machine, meaning it is easier to get a good tasting shot. It is also easier to grind darker roasted beans evenly, which is essential for espresso grinding.
Roasting a coffee longer will also lower its acidity and increase sweetness because we are allowing caramelization to take effect longer (Although roasting too long will roast through the sweetness and you basically start burning the beans)
However, with that being said, it is possible to pull a nice and complex shot with a light filter roast coffee, but it is much more difficult to dial in (but well worth it if you are able)💡
