Villa Trees

I gathered these holly berries from a tree in Clinton, LA in December 2021, & planted them in a small plastic tote. Holly tree seeds require 2 winters to break dormancy, so they sat outside through winter, spring, summer, fall, & winter again until I finally got my first sprouts in February 2023. I let them grow for a full year & then finally finished potting them in June 2024. There were 712 baby trees in that one plastic tote! It was so crazy to have that level of successful germination after waiting over a year for anything to appear. I didn’t even know I gathered that many seeds. 😅 It’s still going to be another year before they are anywhere close to selling size, but you have to start somewhere! And start sooner than later. 😁

278 baby catalpa trees successfully transferred into individual pots. All grown in one small shallow tote container. Super tiny now, but give them another year & they’ll look like the ones in the last two pictures.

My evergreens are looking so pretty this time of year. I just re-potted them into bigger containers. Can’t wait to see their growth next year.
Aren’t my little helpers so cute?

It’s that time of the year again! In spite of the record-breaking summer heat, my catalpa trees managed to fully outgrow their pots this year. I’m having to use my sawzall to cut back their roots to repot them in larger containers.
Excited to be preparing for a new year of growth next spring! They grew 3-4 feet this past year!
Also, does anyone know what material I could lay down that will prevent the roots from growing through it? The catalpas grew straight through my landscape fabric like it wasn’t even there.

You know you have great neighbors when this randomly shows up in front of your door. I really needed a third sprinkler but instead I was constantly moving around the two I have. So thankful!
