Healthy Community Partnership

Transportation is a public health issue. It affects whether someone can get to a doctor's appointment, keep a job, buy groceries, or stay connected to their community. That's why Active Transportation is one of HCP's three focus areas, and why we're proud to support organizations working on these issues across our region.

This graphic comes from the Greater Mahoning Valley LGBTQ Community Needs Assessment, which recently shared findings on transportation access. 16% of respondents said they don't have a reliable way to get around, and the most common barriers were the cost of car repairs, not having access to a dependable vehicle, insurance costs, and gas money.

Transportation problems are rarely just about owning a car. In communities where public transit is limited, transportation can decide whether someone can get to the resources and opportunities they need.
