The lady that owns this home was tired of replacing mulch every year or two. We used 5"-7" river rock, set in a shallow trench for border. Then put down 6 mil black plastic. Covered the plastic with 2" of 3/4" river stone and then topped it off with 2"-3" river stones. Needless to say, we made her very happy with the outcome. These pictures don't really do it justice.
