Roy Wards West Virginia Central & Pittsburg (WVC&P) had an open house on the way home from RPM-East railroad prototype modeler meet this past weekend. We had a few mins to stop by before making the trip back home to Central Pa.

The WVC&P is a prototype freelanced HO Appalachian coal hauler
set in 1958 and based on Western Maryland operations in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. The layout occupies a 24’ x 20’ room and was started in 1978. It has been operated by Timetable and Train Order and a Card System since its inception. It has 154 ft of main line and 113 ft of branch lines, 30 locomotives and 300 freight cars
and is controlled by an MRC DCC system. Roy’s layout appeared in Model Railroad Planning for 2006. A companion prototype article appeared in the 2006 issue of Classic Trains.

On the way to the RPM-East railroad prototype modeler meet this past weekend we attended an operating session at David Baker's Cumberland & Lake Erie. I ran an extra and one of the scheduled trains.

The HO Scale point-to-point Cumberland and Lake Erie Railroad is
a bridge route between Cumberland, MD and Erie, PA as it might have appeared in the summer of 1957. The Laurel Division is modeled with trackage between Cumberland and Johnstown, plus two branch lines. The operations-oriented C&LE features hand-laid
code 83, 70, and 55 track; NCE DCC with steam and diesel sound, and yards and staging at each end of the model railroad. It occupies most of a 34’ x 36’ basement.
