Before you rely on your employer’s Life Insurance, take a minute to ask what might not be included (or where coverage may fall short). It’s a great benefit, but it isn’t always a complete plan.

1. If I leave my job, what happens to my coverage?
Many employer life policies are tied to employment, so coverage may end when you leave.

2. Is the benefit amount actually enough for my family?
A lot of plans provide a flat amount or 1–2x your salary. Would that cover the mortgage/rent, bills, childcare, and time off work?

3. Does it cover my spouse and kids the way I think it does?
Dependent coverage is often limited and may require extra enrollment steps.

4. Are there exclusions or limits I should know about?
Some plans have restrictions, waiting periods, or “actively at work” requirements.

5. Can I increase coverage without medical questions?

6. Is it term-only, and can I convert it later?
If you leave your job, conversion may be an option, but costs and rules vary.

7. Are my beneficiaries up to date?
Life changes happen. Make sure the benefit goes where you intend.
