First trip to the 4850 foot underground level at the Sanford Underground Research Facility to celebrate the ribbon cutting for the next phase, the installation of experiments. 20 years and one day ago the collaboration agreed to work on the 4850 plan. It was my “baby” back then. It’s grown quite a bit since then and is bringing $2billion to SD. An international group is doing the most advanced neutrino science right here in SD. To modify a line from my big brother: those tiny neutrinos are actually a pretty big deal.
